The Linux Foundation asked me to write this paper a few years after I wrapped up my six-year stint as the editor of LinuxDevices from 2003 to 2009. It was used in their embedded Linux training courses, and then eventually published on their website. It kind of served as a capstone to my years immersed in embedded Linux, a very enjoyable and fast-paced time with new technology to learn and write about daily!
